There are several galleries of photographs accessible
from this page. Most of the recent geological
pictures are digital originals, taken on a variety of
Fuji Finepix cameras. the older images are all 35mm
negative and slide, taken on a variety of Nikon cameras.
The categories are as follows:
The entire Gallery
This link above will take you to the start page for the
entire Gallery. The Gallery is built using a program
called ImageFolio which uses a very simple hierarchical
structure based on actual disk directories. It should be
very easy to navigate. If however you want to go straight to
specific subject areas, please choose a link from the
subjects below:
General pictures of Mull and Iona
These pictures give an overall impression of the
islands. Where there are important geological features,
these will be emphasised. Many of these pictures have
been taken over a long period of time, so the actual
scenes may be slightly different today. The writer has
an extensive collection of photographs, mainly
traditional film, but through time more and more digital
images are being included.
Geological Sites
These photographs show various geological sites,
sometimes with close-up detail. Many of the sites are
world famous.
Hand Specimens
This is an on-going project to catalogue a large
collection of representative samples from Mull and Iona.
The aim is to represent every rock type mentioned in the
BGS Memoirs and on legends of the geological maps. This
Gallery is also linked from the Geology
page
Photomicrographs
Photographs of thin sections.
Other Photographs of geological interest
Photographs which do not fit into the categories above,
but which are of geological interest.
Just click on the links above and you should be taken to
the appropriate galleries. The galleries have been
created using the program "Image Folio". This is a
commercial product but it is very easy to use. It is
particularly effective for building up photo libraries.
