Maps

Ordnance Survey Maps: Mull is covered by 3 maps in both the Explorer series as well as the Landranger series. Older out of date maps are also listed, such as the 1" Seventh Series and the 2.5" Pathfinders.

British Geological Survey Maps:
(Note that the BGS Memoirs make frequent references to the "sheet numbers" These are given below with the 1:50000 maps)

IGS/BGS "Ten Mile" Map North Sheet, 1:625000 scale. Good for seeing Mull and Iona in the overall scheme of things. Covers Northern Ireland, Scotland and North part of England. Entire Tertiary Igneous Province

 

 

BGS 1:50000 Eastern Mull Map. Sheet 44 West and part of 44 East - covers most of the island, including the main igneous centres. One of the most complex geological maps ever put together!
BGS 1:50000 Staffa map. Sheet 43 North. Includes the coast of Mull next to Loch Tuath as well as the Gribun area. All of Ulva and the Treshnish Isles. And an awful lot of sea!
BGS 1:50000 Ross of Mull Map. Sheet 43 South Also includes part of the Ardmeanach area and all of Iona
BGS 1:50000 Caliach Point. Sheet 51 East. Only available as a flat sheet (rolled in a tube)  Basically an updated version of the 1" map. Solid & Drift. 
BGS 1:50000 Ardnamurchan. Sheet 52 West. Contains only a small part of Mull.

Obsolete Maps:

These are mentioned just for reference. Some people may still be using them. Ebay is a good place to look for old classic maps. www.ebay.co.uk  The old 1" geological map of Eastern Mull occasionally crops up on Ebay.

Includes: Old 1" maps from the Ordnance Survey, esp the Seventh Series. The main ones are:

Sheet 44: Coll and Tiree
Sheet 45: Sound of Mull
Sheet 51: Iona & Colonsay
Sheet 52: Loch Awe

Pathfinder Maps: Published at 1:25000 scale, these maps have a green cover but have largely been superseded by the Explorer series.
