This is a list of all the rock type of Mull and Iona as given in the three Memoirs that relate to the area. The names were simply lifted from the index at the back of each Memoir. These Memoirs are detailed in the Resources page. The names are simply listed in alphabetical order - for detailed descriptions, check out the Glossary database, accessible via the hyperlink at the bottom of the left hand side icons.

At present this is just a list of about 70 names - by sub-dividing various rocks, schists for example, the list could be even longer. However, it does show the great variety of rock types that are found in the area.

Geology Cairn Project:

For the Geology Cairn Project, work has begun on gathering the specimens. As of 10th October 2006, the following have been collected:
